= most likely to stay in the test
= most likely to be retired
= probably will be retired but it is not certain that all of these blue ones will be retired
About two of these topics will probably continue in the test from May to August, but we don't know which two. I think Topic 200, A Film, Topic 202, A leisure Activity, Topic 203, A Newspaper or Magazine Article and Topic 208, A Science Lesson are the most likely topics to continue in the test.
I predict the following topics are the most likely not to continue in the test because they have been in use for more than one year (i.e., they continued in the test before, when it was time for them to retire): Topic 207, A Place with a Lot of Water; Topic 211, A Recent happy Event; and Topic 212, A Happy Childhood Memory.
The thirteen or so topics that will be retired will be replaced by thirteen "new" topics. Of these "new" topics, probably about three will be topics that have been used before, but not in the last 12 months. The other nine topics will be truly new topics that have not been used since this website started keeping records in early 2006.
Topic 209, An Exciting Sport, might be retired but, since there's nearly always a topic about sport, it will probably be replaced by another topic about sport, possibly a topic that has been used before. However, many of the Part 3 questions for Topic 209 might continue to be used for the new sport topic.
Topic 207, A Place with a Lot of Water; will probably be retired but will probably be replaced by a new topic that is connected to the theme of the environment. There might be a heavy emphasis on the topic of "climate change" in the Part 3 for this new topic. (See Note)
Topic 198, A Conversation is likely to be retired but it will probably be replaced by a similar topic so that the new Part 3 has many questions about communication. Possibly Topic 198 will be replaced by the previously used Topic 49, Someone Who Spoke a Different Language. And possibly many of the Part 3 questions for Topic 198 will continue to be used with the "new" Part 2 topic.
As a wild guess, I think it is possible that at least one of the following old topics (or topics very similar to one or more of these) might come back into the test:
Topic 2, An Important Decision
Topic 4, A Busy Time
Topic 5, Receiving a Large Sum of Money
Topic 16, A Piece of Furniture
Topic 17, A Practical Skill
Topic 49, Someone Who Spoke a Different Language
Topic 67, Clothes
